Torsion bars

I know a few guys with GMC and Chevy trucks that plow and they were talking about cranking up the torsion bars so the weight of the plow wouldn't make the truck lower as much. Is this a good idea and what negetive effects does it have on the truck. I would think that if they were meant to be one way, why would you change it?

not really a good idea especially with the weight of the plow. that's a lot of stress.

stelmadl will become famous soon enough
I know alot of people who've done it. It will make the ride stiffer and probably wear the bar out quicker.....but then again, I know of a couple of trucks (a 97 Z71 to name one) that's been "lifted" since day one and hasn't experienced any problems.

thats actually exactly why they are adjustable- to set the ride height. I put about 4 turns on mine to level it off with the plow. unload the front suspension by ******* the up the front- makes it alot easier. use alot of lube too. Mine took 4 turns and it stiffened right up. it will throw the camber off though. so adjust them until the truck ride height is the same with plow on and up, and with the plow off. you will also have to lower them when the plow comes off too. its really easy to do.
