2007 sierra 1500, hard to turn wheel at first

I've got a 2007 sierra 1500, 2wd, v6 with a little over 50,000 miles. When it is cold, the steering wheel is difficult to turn, almost like it doesn't have power steering. But, once I make a turn or two, the steering wheel frees up and everything is fine. Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it? Thanks, Greg

In the 50K miles that the truck has on the clock, when was the last time you changed the PS fluid?
This fluid is not magic fluid, and goes through several heat cycles that can brak down fluid terribly.
Oxidation occurs, and the fluid is no longer effective.
I would change the fluid with some fresh new fluid to see if this clear up your symptoms.

Howdy,
If you're sitting still with your foot on the brake pedal it will lock the front wheels in place and make it very difficult to turn. Take your foot off the brake pedal and apply the parking brake or put the trans in park position and take your foot off the brake pedal. Then try turning the steering wheel.
