For what its worth, I have seen a good gas welder use a cutting torch and burn broken studs or extractors right outa there! Don't know if that's viable in your case, but it is a possibility...with a **** good welder you know and trust!

If you look close, there should b 3 bolt holes at the starter location, as long as it is not the outside bolt you can buy an old style starter, not the new small high torqe one, and it should bolt using the other 2 holes.
