Make sure the transmission yoke doesn't need to be repacked with grease try that first it's the cheapest thing to do it can fool you good.

is it 2wd or 4wd?

if 4wd flush transmission&replace filter, drain/refill t-case(autotrack or atf), drain/refill front diff(80w90 or 75w90 syn), drain/refill rear diff(75w90 syn).

if 2wd flush transmssion&replace filter, drain/refill rear diff(75w90 syn)

I agree with Camino. Have thought that since I first saw this thread. Most little clanks and bangs in the rear are either u-joints or bearings. I would check the universal joints first and work out from there.

If you have 160k on it and have not replaced the tranny filter and fluid, then yeah, definitely do that, but that is not nescesarily going to solve your problem here.
