Transfer Case

Just bought my truck and noticed a slight drip below on the driveway. Looked underneath and saw that someone had JB-welded the bottom of the transfer case which must have cracked somehow. How much do transfer cases run? What's best, used rebuild, etc. How many hours of labor might I expect to pay for? I'm not too confident about doing it myself. Or, is it easier than I might expect?

Thanks

if you can see and easily access the fixed area, buy some fiberglass cloth, i'd use 2 part resin, but jbweld should do either, and some very strong degreaser(MEK. acetone is oily. ether.).
get a rough file or sandpaper. roughen the area around the fix, as far as it is possible. degrease the hack out of it and don't touch with hands due to oil in skin.
cut yourself a suitable patch from fiberglass cloth, apply jbweld liberally to it with a toungue depressor or spatula, degrease it one more time, and apply patch. cover with jbweld on the outside of the patch.
borrow wife's hair dryer, set it on high, and apply heat to facilitate curing process. i use resin that hardens in about 2 minutes. siegelhartz.
when this is done, smooth outside of the patch, to remove bumps, then roughen it again with rough sand paper, overlapping the 1st patch, if possible, and apply 2nd patch with resin or jbweld. if you can find it, get some aluminum foil with adhesive backing and cover the patch with it.
if you do it fast and keep grease away, will last long time.

I used JB weld on my A413 for my Neon. I had to make a 1.37" spacer for my differential and needed to grind the case out so the diff and spacer would fit. I ground too much material out of the case and went through the bell housing. I just used JB weld on it and its been like that for a few years now without any leaks.
