4WD Problems please help!

Hello everone, I drive a 1998 Gmc seierra 4x4 1500. I took it through some mud a few days ago and ever since, I havent been able to turn the wheel (while in 4wd)all the way without the truck coming to a stop. Its almost like the brakes are on when I turn hard(best way to explain it). Right after I went through this mud, I heard some grinding noises, and now I cant turn all the way. The grinding noises came from the left front wheel. Any help will be much apprecieted!

Welcome to the site;

Sounds as though you may have a problem with a CV shaft. When was the last time they were inspected or serviced?
Does the truck function well when it is in 2wd? Is this problem only 4wd related?

Thanks for the welcome! Yea it has nothing to do with the shaft or u-joints, it sounds as if its inside the "wheel" Should I start pulling off the hub, to get at the bearings?

That would deffinately be the next best step. If you are confident that tha CV's are in decent condition, then the next step will be to inspect the wheel bearings. Those complete units are known for failure.
Good luck with it.
Hope you are able to isolate the problem.
I suspect that if it is the bearings, this condition exists all of the time, and is probably not limited to when 4wd is engaged.

donno what exactly is "taking it through the mud", it's personal for each driver.
what i do know is that cv joints bind in 4wd mud or no mud, plus rattle in steering, if you try to turn on dry pavement. had it engaged several times in parking lots, just to check on it, stirr the tramsfer case fluid, so to speak, and it is very noticeable.
so, if you had a bump or 2 while "mudding" who knows. i am blaiming it on cv joints.
now, if the truck comes to a halt in 4wd, the only reason i know of - and i just had it - under the circumstance that everything else is fine, is discrepancy in tire size front and back. i had my truck repaired after wreck and they put 70s on the front end, while i had 75s in the rear. that did it, and did it good. front differential locks.
