klunking

it klunks when slowing down, coasting, or when the trans downshifts. sometimes after coasting for a ways and give it some power it will clunk. but from a dead stop & accelorate to speed it does not clunk.thanks for the help.

I get a clunk in the rear of my truck once in a while too. Usually when I put it in gear from park, doesn't matter what gear, it'll do it in reverse or drive.

The weird thing is it will begin to roll like normal then stop. I then have to give it gas and it'll go with a very loud "klunk!" It doesn't do it all the time, just once in a while.

I too remember hearing something about it being a normal thing in GM trucks but I'd like to know what it really is myself.

This may help you out, I've got an 07 classic Z71, mine used to clunk, but took it to the dealership and they greased something to do with my driveshaft, I can't remember exactly what they done, but it was a driveshaft issue. I believe it was the splines for the driveshaft. I happened about a year ago right when I got the truck, so I'm a little foggy, you might want to start with the driveshaft. Hope it helps

I have a 01 5.3L Z71 and it also clunked. What solved my problem was not to short fill the rear end like GM says to. It has not clunked since! It's been about 4000 since I serviced both diffs and transfer case.
