| I have a 1993 GMC stepside with the 4.3 V6 and there is a wire between the frame and the firewall, it is getting very hot and burning, also when the ignition is turned on there is a banging sound behind the glove box that lasts about 15 seconds. this also occurs when the ignition is shut off. Any help on either problems? do I just replace the wire between the firewall and frame? or is there something causing this burning. the insulation has now almost totally burned off. The previous owner has installed an aftermarket cd player. Is that a factory wire that runs from the frame to the firewall? it's on the pass side of truck. The wire only gets hot when the starter is running. I just replaced the battery Monday with a good (AC Delco) battery. I have replaced the plugs, rotor and cap. I believe it is related to the wire that is getting hot. what is that wire an additional ground? Jay Last edited by rambleranch@ear; 05-09-2008 at 12:59 PM. Reason: additional info |

| Okay.... Before we can help I think we need some more information. What is the year, make and model?.... how many miles? If there is burning, I would replace wire first.... and be careful. I have seen too many truck fires in my time. Not fun.

| I had a buddy with the same thing going on. he said it was some anti-pressure deal that is supossed to take the pressure out of the cab so when you slam the doors with the windows up it dosent pop your ears. he said the noise was a malfunctioning moving door very similar to the AC/heating door that moves based on weather you want hot or cold air blowing out the vents. I have no clue if this is your problem but it sounds very similar. by the way he never got it fixed so I dont know the remedy sorry.
