| Should I Keep This Truck Anymore Ok guy i've had this truck since last year my dad gave it to me and he was the only owner before me. It's a 1998 gmc 1500 slt and its really starting to wear me out. Dont get me wrong i love this truck but after replacing so much stuff on it and it still breaks down all once every two months it's really getting old you know. It's got 140000 miles on it and all at once the breaks went out the new powersteering pump i put on six months ago is leaking pretty bad from the back seals and now the **** starter has went out to i just can't see dealing with this **** much longer anyone ever had to deal with stuff like this before . Do you guys think i should keep this truck.

| you and mudseeker must be hanging out alot. it does seem like alot of parts to replace for a 98. but have seen it before. might have something to do with driving habits, maybe not. remember this though, after replacing all this stuff, you will have a truck with a whole bunch of new parts. i had a 91 chevy like that with warranties on almost everything. near anything could break on it and the only thing it costs me was my labor and a trip to autozone. |

| Well, when any vehicle gets some age and wear to it, it will need extra TLC.... however it is really up to you. You could buy something brand new and make payments for like 6-7 years and then own it, and will have to go through this again. in the end, you will always have to repair or pay for a truck every month. If it were me, I would rationalize how much you are spending a year on this one vs the avg truck payment on a new one annually and see which one is less. I mean the birght side is after a year or two or replacing all these parts, you will virtually have a new truck anyways...LOL.... It is a matter of mathmatics. Which way is more effective for you? The new silverado's have that AFM system and will save some money in gasoline, but payments will more then likely be close to 700 a month or more. Just see which one is cheaper is all I am saying.

| you could sell it dirt cheap to me LOL J/K. those parts that went are bad are very cheap VS buying a new truck. JR has a very good point about vehicle maintenece even a 6-7 year old truck is going to start showing problems. Brakes, starters, and power steering pumps are to me considered normal wear parts and are reletively cheap to replace. when your head gasket blows or a head cracks throw a rod or spin a bearing those are the times to consider getting rid of a vehicle. Brakes are expected to be changed around every 2 1/2 to 3 years. starters maybe less cause it works so hard and power steering pumps last a long time It took ten years of use before yours went bad that's a good run in my book. JR made a great comment compare what you are spending on this truck VS the expense of a new rig that will need new parts as it gets used and abused

| keep it! When you buy replacement parts don't buy the cheapest always buy lifetime so you don't pay for them a second time |

| hey it's a 98 and did he do any work to it before he gave it to you? if not then that is a pretty good truck bud. like everyone here is saying tlc can go along way with a truck that has not been worked on before.
