Question Popping noise from pass. side engine

I have a new popping noise as if I have no exhaust on the passenger side of my '03 Sierra 1500. A gm tech guy said it was a bad cat, but it sounds like it is the engine under the air intake tube, near the plugs.
Any ideas?
I wanted to cut the cats off and straight pipe them, but he said without o2 sensor trick plugs I would have a check engine light on because the rear 2 sensors would say I'm polluting. The magnaflow replacement y-pipe with 2 new cats is like $389. The pipe cutting and replacement is like $45

compression test to verify there isn`t a bad vavle... also vacuum leaks are common in the intake, use water n soap on intake when running to verify...exhaust sounds like a great idea!

Thumbs up

It was BOTH of my cats...the insides are loose and blocking the paths...causing backpressure and sluggish driving. Having the straight pipes put on in the morning...thanx guys ..

Any ideas on those trick o2 sensors?...I need 2 rears so I don't drive myself nuts with the check engine light always on.
