Stuck valve need help ASAP

ok its a 1989 gmc s15 with a 2.5L iron duke in it, yesterday the exhaust valve got stuck open while driving up a big hill, made some horible noises and now is knocking, im guessing it the piston hitting the valve and it stalls and runs like ****. so now the questions: What can cause the exhaust valve to just randomly stick open? the keeper and spring are fine, the valve cannot be moved right now ive tried. i had the valve cover off and exhaust manifold off. and what damages can this cause to the engine if say the valve bent and hit something or what the worst that could of happen? thanks guys

ok well that sucks, its definitly not moving i cant budge the thing and i dont wanna try any harder, it never even ran hot while i drove it home, it still runs on the other 3 cylinders. what could of caused it to stick at a high RPM under lots of load, aka hauling stuff for the farm i work at? thanks for the quick reply, and one more tips for trying to free the valve

need to remove the head for starters.

the high rpm's may have caused your valves to "float". basically your valve springs are weak and could not seat the valve fast enough before the piston smacked it.

this guy explains it better than i can.
Over reving can cause damage to all engine parts .what is the causes and how it happen and why? - Yahoo! Answers
