Question Trans fluid leakage and clinking

I have an obvious turning spray pattern on the underside of my truck from the end of the trans and the u joint is wet. There is a small accumulation of fluid near the overflow hose which I think is normal. I assume it's just a touch overfull but there is also a noise like placing the end of a screw driver into the blades of a small metal fan when I'm decelerating. Basically I hear it when I come up my street doing 20 or so. When I let off the gas, it does the noise. I've checked every heatshield, bracket, metal flap and floorpanel, doesn't seem to be a rattle. Sounds internal. Thoughts?

This is not anythig to create what you are describing. Look for signs of a fan hitting the schroud, maybe a bad right mount, whats it on?

The noise is coming from under the truck beneath my seats. Maybe not at the leak, but under in the same area. No engine compartment issues fan shroud etc. 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500 2wd. I have always heard a clunk when putting it into reverse, but only recently has this noise manifested.

it is virtually mandatory to have correct fluid level, or you'll step into all and any kinds of troubles.
trannie has a breather hole that likes to overflow when trannie's overfilled.
any leaks at slip yoke indicate bad output shaft seal, i just had this discussion yesterday. or bad slip yoke that ripped the seal or is leaking around the seal due to wear.
as of clunk in reverse, don't they all do this? it's just that yours might be worse for some reasons.
i'd have 2 things done:
1. read error codes at any parts store, it's free and good starting point
2. definitely recheck fluid level and make sure it's not smelling of burnt or looks yellowish. fluid level has to be within spec, period.

I think I found it, it was a panel near the ac accumulator above my passenger side header....Put it up on a lift, took out the splash guard in the wheel well and I bent it until it didn't vibrate any more and it seems to have stopped. I was so convinced it was my tranny cause of the sound location. I've been wrong before. As for the leak, I guess I ride it out until it gets worse.

an output shaft seal is easy to replace. dont forget a small can to catch the fluid when you pop the seal out. sure beats letting her go and getting worse. all the sudden, you are at a store and the truck wont go.

That looks like a transmission seal leak, I just replaced mine this weekend, I also did a tranny fluid and filter change at the same time. The seal itself can be had at napa or kragen for under $10 the thing is you will need a huge, GIGANTIC size bigger than 1" 1/4 size socket to tap the seal in if your doing it yourself, you will also have to remove the driveshaft.

I just replaced mine this weekend also ,but seems to still be leaking. After a little more research it appears that it is leaking through the weep hole in the slip yoke. I am going for the quick fix and fill it with silicone, should solve my problem.

The noise is still driving me crazy, I thought I fixed it...It sounds like when you grind the clutch on a stick shift when I'm doing like 20 mph. Sometimes I hear it stay with the revving unless I hit a bump or something. My truck is driving fine, tranny is strong...no clunking or slipping. Unless it's where the noise is coming from. I thought maybe a rattle from the exhaust, but it's not always there. I'm not really sure what it is now. Confused again and getting frustrated.

have you looked at the heat shields on your cats. they are known to rattle when they get older. most people take them off or re-weld them on. its up to you
