ok guys.... i got the door panels off and have my speakers in !!!! Bought my tires, ended up getting 235/75/15 wrangler AT/s tires installed this morning 408$ being the final price... and a warranty that will replace any tire for free in 60,000 miles if something happens for any reason.... dad got me a nice discount cause of law enforcement. I'm going to take off the black rubber step ups to see if it looks better... now i have a new question... single cab bench seat, and i want to put a sub in there and a amp in the near future what would be the best set up for box and location to put the sub that still gives me some space... (note that the jack and tools are on the far side passenger) i don't care where it goes behind the seat, so the real question is where is best mounting area and anyone have examples to what they have or would do?

custom box behind the seat with the amp underneath the seat. i know what you are talking about with the jack and it does make it diificult for installing a standard truck box. might have to invent something. that makes it alot of fun.

I built a custom box for a kid not long ago, it was for a '85 GMC standard cab. I made the box out of 5/8" MDF, made it so that the back panel was one pice, that went from one side to the other, then had 2 boxes (5 sides to the angled boxes, since the back panel was acting as the 6th side for both boxes )mounted at the outer most edge on each side. This provided about 10-12" between the actual 2 boxes, made a perfect place to mount an amp and provide a little additional storage. You can also put shims underneath the amp, since it is on a flat surface, this way your amp can get better air-flow all around the amp. With 2 - 10" speakers hooked up to a 600 watt amp, it beat plenty hard and pushed lots of air around in that area. The MDF, whether you use 5/8" or 3/4" can be easily covered in any cheap carpet and should turn out looking pretty good. MDF is under $20 a sheet, can be found at Lowe's or Home-Depot and one sheet should do you. Just measure everything 2 - 3 times, make sure you have adequate depth for your speakers, as some of those magnets require 1/2" air space around them all the way. To top it all off for under $50 you can build a box that is far better than any $100 box on the market. That was the whole reason I built it was; I liked the kid, hated to see him spend $100+ on something he was prolly going to blow apart in 6 months anyway. You might want to get you some good construction adhesive or caulk, I used caulk, and caulk all of your joints before you screw it together for the last time. With 10" speaker cut-outs you can reach inside the box easily and smear more caulk around all the seems on the inside. You can buy all of the speaker terminations at your local Radio shack, whether you get the RCA jacks that plug direct to an amp or the compression type that grip the wire. Good luck!

well jackson you took my suggestion out of my mouth... but i would like to add that for a reg cab truck you really only need one 12 inch sub for it to sound crisp...if you want rattle the block then go with 2 10s.. 5/8mdf is good up to 800 watts before it starts to come apart. i dont remeber what truck you have but i think its mid 80s. they look really good with bucket seats in em. i have an 87 and i put 2 leathers in mine and its so much better and i can put a standard size box in the middle.. it isnt staying there but you can read my build thread for more details

i have a bench seat so i was probably going to go with making two boxes on either side and just taking my jack out and put it in the tool box in the bed. a 10' on either side should bust some ear drums in such a small cab...... thanks for all the tips im taking them all into consideration and using a lot of them
