now the gas gauge ?

since our last meeting (dead battery thing) now the gas gage is acting up !! with the key off it shows 1/2 tank , with it running all i see is all white . truck is 1989 gmc 1/2 ton what could it be gage or sending unit ? and yes as always i will post the cure (if i find it)

hate to say it silver but you seem to have quite a few problems with your pickup. hate to see this and hope that things will eventually clear up for you. with the key off, it will not show an accurate reading since it is not getting any signal from the sending unit. or power to the cluster for that matter. you should have the disc that spins telling you what you have instead of a needle. half is white and the other is either dark grey or black. if it is pegged out, i would check out your wiring for grounding. if your wiring all looks good as well as the connections into the tank, bet is on the sending unit.

I used to own an 86 S-10 and I had the same problem I replaced the sending unit and it fixed the problem. Trust me my S-10 was a wiring nightmere it surpises the truck even ran. gauges cluster wiring rarely as far as I know messes up the sending unit for my truck was 90 + tx at the local parts store so and my truck had a wooden box so it wasn't to big a pain for me but good luck to you!

check the same places. if the needle doesnt move at all, i would check the hot side of the connections as well.

sounds like your sending unit has a bad spot in the arm . your not getting a constant connection {ohm's reading} when the arm floats up and down.
