| Tonneau bed covers (Bakflip) Anyone out there every have any experiences wiht "Bakflip" manufactured tonneau bed covers? Durability? watertight? water resistant? warpping? discoloring? noise? I am considering buying a folding tonneau for my new GMC Sierra 2008 extended cab and I woud like to have something watertight, durable, lockable and still have full access to the entire bed without entirely removing the tonneau ...any thoughts? | i have been reading up on one made by pace edwards... it is a sliding tonneau that is electric.. doesnt require any holes to be drilled and is easy to install.. just google it.. there is a write up about it in sport truck last month and it looked easy enough to put it |

| i have backflip. i am very happy with it. it is decently waterproof and does not steal any of cargo area if foldded completely against the rear window. as of retractibles, bewarned: 1. box will steal some of the bed 2. it's more parts to break down on you. if you want to buy a backflip, buy one that has side ridge underneath the plates. think it's about inch high. looks sturdier than regular backflip and looks much better. ![]() ![]() |

| well, to add some info to complete: 1. retactibles tear or break at connections 2. electrical motors are prone to failure due to continuous exposition to elements 3. any single piece tounneaus, though looking much better than flips or retracts, have 2 inherent issues with them: stolen/limited truck bed access and, no matter what they say, it's a sizeable piece of plastic that simply can't be removed in 15 seconds, if you need to dump 2 cubes of bark into the bed. plus, continuous removals will break the attachments fast, as it's all quite flimsy aluminum. 4. there are fency flips, that open on both ends. yes, it's nice, but attachment is about 1/3rd bed length back from the cab, thus truck bed full access is limited again. ultimately, it's personal decision. if your goal is strictly slick looks and little to no bed use, or use from the rear only - then tounneau is a best choice, as they come in all kinds of shapes and looks and ABSOLUTELY look very stylish. even if you use full truck bed only few times a year, it's not much of a hassle to remove it. but, the more you use the bed, esp fro direct dumps from the top, like bark, dirt, etc, which is my case - then you have to have easy access to it, without removing cover every time. thus, flips are the most utilitarian ones, as they can be folded against the cab completely. also, cubic yard of topsoil or 2 cubes of bark can be, after spreading, completely covered by flip cover for rainy day haul. ![]() |
