3500 GMC 98 truck will not start

i have a 1998 gmc dooley that runs on deisel and i had some former problems with the fuel tank filter so i took it off and cleaned the tank out and replaced the filter and i thought i had enough diesil in it but obviously didn't so i ran out all the fuel in the lines and i am having a rough time crankin it up, i poured roughly 10 gallons of fuel in it (it is a 30 gallon tank) i tried starter fluid, putting some fuel inside the fuel filter and the pumps and everything seem to be working just fine, besides cranking it again and again to run the lines through is their any other way that might take less time i've been at it aprox. 1-2 hours doing this, can anybody help?

I`ve cheated sometimes by opening the bleed on the filter and putting compressed air to the tank using a blowgun and a rag, limit the air pressure though! probly less than 10psi to be safe! it will eventually get fuel forced out the top!

Welcome to the forum, Does it have a filter on the return line? Have you tried cracking an injector line open to make sure that the pump is primed? The usual method is crank the snot out of it and let it sit for a bit then repeat. Plugging in the block heater may help and keep it on the charger to get max turning. good luck!

that is how ive always reprimed loaders and backhoes. crackin one line at a time till they all spit. sometimes i have gotten lucky with the ether but you got to keep spraying enough to keep it running until it primes itself which can take a few seconds.
