Need help with dome light and wiring diagram

Hello, I'm new here. I recently purchased a 95 GMC Z71 with 85,000 original miles on it. Everything is working great except the dome light. I have tried everything I know and haven't been able to solve my problem. The light works when you use the keyless entry to lock or unlock the doors and it will also work if you use the swithc on the dashboard that controls the backlighting but it won't work when you open the doors. I have put my volt meter on both terminals where the light bulb snaps in and they are both showing 12 volts? Can someone explain how this system works to me? I have also taken the drivers door switch from the wiring harness and I don't have voltage at any of the three wires that go to it.

welcome to the forum. this topic has been covered alot lately here. step 1,get a haynes manual.it will show you how everything is wired. check your door pins. you have 12+ at the light, they use the ground as the switching means.does your dome light have a little switch on the cover?if so,check that also. check the door switches with a meter on ohm's.

Make sure that the push button by the light switch is in the on position. It is a cutoff switch for the dome.

Got it figured out. It was a combination of things. My stupidity and the drivers side door switch. I had the bypass switch on the dash turned off so no wonder i wasn't getting any fire to the door switch. Thanks for all your help.
