Interesting. Often times I cant build something like this for the same money that I can purchase the same thing. Have you priced out all of the material needed to perform this task? I believe once you purchase enough material to make the shackles, and the bushings, hardware, blah, blah, you light have more than 40 bucks tied up. Either way, in order to get 2 inches of drop, you must re-locate the mounting points 4 inches further apart. Since you are only moving one end of the spring, the amount of drop is divided ny two. So a two inch longer shackle will net one inch of drop. 4 inches longer will only net 2 inches of drop, and so on. Be carefull with hoow long you make them, you do still have limits even though you are dealing with a tension style design. Side loads can fold the shackle, and promote sway. You also have a shackle angle limitation. Too much cmpression can permit the spring to contact the mount if it has enough travel. This is provided that the spring can flatten out that far during suspension cycles. Often aftermarket companies will sell entire hanger kits. This also has an affect on pinion angle, so have some disgression with the amount of shackle length. Normal issues with shock length also apply.

I used some once from the older days meaning the shackles that they would use to raise cars I used some bushing that I had left over from my 1957 F100 Ford leaf springs to cushion where the bolt went though because the leaf spring on your truck already has them but I would recommend buying the kit.

96 sierra I installed Belltech 2" drop shackles, lowered rear 1.5" and changed pinion angle enough to cause vibration. Installed 2" drop hangers lowered another 1.5" to level truck and inproved pinion angle less vibration. trouble was the left side was slightly lower than right so I used 1" hole drip on left shackle to correct. stayed with stock shock length but have bottomed out a time'r two so will need drop shocks or extenders.
