old skool or vortec

i recently got a sweet deal on a 92 sierra with the old skool fuel injected 350 and i plan on building it out a little. a freind of mine told me the first thing i should do is swap the top end to the vortec, along with the computer and wiring harness. is it really worth doing that or can i make decent power with the original top end.

have always thought that TBI was the best of both worlds (MPFI and carbs). if you are wanting more pep, they make other heads that can do as much or more than the vortec heads. just knowing what kind to get and way you port them, maybe a few other things, and you will have a hot little truck there.

it depends on what you want , you can do real good with the old 350 tbi , headers, mild cam , intake manifold ect but if you want max and have tons of money vortec . in the end it's your choice and only yours .

If it where me, first I would fill out an intro thread in the new member section. Then, go for the vortec's. The heads that are on your truck now are restrictive as ****. If your going to spend money on your truck, spend wisely.

Welcome to the forum
Will it be a daily driver, or tow vehicle? if it's a daily driver silver is right with a cam and a few goodies. If you will be doing any towing over 2000#'s EFI restricts power big time(not enough fuel) so you will have to address it when you select parts.
You don't mention where you are from , so you need to be aware of state inspection rules if applicable

ok, i have some things i hope you can clear up for me.
first, what year vortec are we talking about? pre-obd2 or 96+ vortec?
pre-obd2, all you would have to do is swap heads and intake and keep your current throttle body and maybe burn a new chip for your current computer. as far as swapping a 96+ vortec, you would need more than the top end. you would also need the MAF sensor since 92 did not come equipped with one along with the vortec dizzy, crank sensor and many other sensors to make that engine fire over.

in other words, if you want a true vortec, do an engine swap, otherwise find yourself a set of fast burn heads that will bolt to your current intake and call it a night.
