if it shows you going faster, than the ticker is going to show more miles for the same distance traveled. there should be a small gear located on the end of that shaft going to the tranny. you can get that gear with a different number of teeth which will put your speedo at the right speed. must have the gear ratio and tire size to get this gear though. you will need the tranny model also.

Don't know what the gears are but the tires are 245/75/16.

Do transmission places do this kind of work?

Thanks!!!

if you have a GPS the speed is very accurate on them. You can check your speedo against it.

i dont know if tranny shops would or not but i would stop there first. there is a speedo shop in dallas which custom makes these. you take the cable with you and they can do their thing. i had one out of an old dodge where it needed a different end to mate up with the dash. took the dash with me and went back a couple of days later. fit like a glove. call around and do some checking. i forget where exactly tulsa is in OK, but this shop is off of 75.

Brad is right its different color gears for the ratio, is the cable making any noise in the cold?
ok who remembers the method where you rotate the wheel and count the driveshaft revolutions to determine the gear ratio?"
Is it stock it might be listed in the glovebox

you lift the rear end off the ground(chock front wheels first)
mark on the tire(or rotor/ drum?), and one on the drive line..... with with every 3.73 rotations of the drive line, you have 1 rotation on the tire.....3.73-1 ratio....(for example).....
I think thats how it works..... don't remember for sure

batty nailed it on the head. however, counting .73 times, or one quarter of a rotation sometimes is hard to figure. what is this, a GMC?? look on the housing for a plate or number stamping. if you cant find it. bust open the differential and count the gears by hand. this will accomplish 2 things. one, it will give you an exact number for ratio. secondly, it will give you a chance to replace the old fluid that is back there for some fresh stuff.
