I have a 94 chev 5.7 that is stock. In CA we've had the sniffers for decades.
Just recently they made the test "tougher" and more "realistic".
I love it.

The old method had them doing a check at nearly idle and then the same tests at high rpm.
Now they do the tests at two "road" speeds with the tires on rollers.
I was pushing the top end of failing the tests under the old method,
now the same truck same condition passes with flying colors.
This is because the two road speeds are same rpm for me.

This is part of why I think "enviromentalists" are a religious group.
not a science group. aka: how's that working so far ?
We test for a number of gases, but I believe only two are pass/fail,
the others are just info.

I have never failed a test but my truck has been assigned to the group
that always goes to special test only spots now.
Maybe Texas will change to the new roller method soon and you can pass
the tests without worry and thank the folks who are trying to fail you. LOL

Say bud we do have that roller test here it's the only kind that we have had since they started testing here in Houston or Harris county. The last couple of years they ran the truck at a idle then at a way higher rpm than today. Now the newer cars don't have to take that test I think it's just the OBD 1 cars/trucks. I'm just super happy that it passed. Come on people say way to go.........GMC say something about my baby.

Great that you passed the emmision test. If you do actually have a be EGR I would replace it. It can effect milage and preformance.

I am going to replace the EGR soon and Leo San Antonio, Texas is real pretty especially down town the river runs right though it. I also replace my Serpentine belt today my cost was $26.13 with my sons discount or it would have been 53.00 dollars I really didn't need it but since not long ago it came off due to a bad tensioner pulley I said I better be safe than sorry. Thanks for the tip scavanger.
