91' GMC cruise control question

Does the transmission have any connection to the cruise control working? I'm thinking of swapping out the 5-speed to a 700r4 with high stall convertor.

I have a built 383 stroker with comp cams 280 hyd. Made 440hp 417tq. I've got a built 700r4 with 3,200 convertor laying here. The rearend is stock housing with auburn pro and 4.10 gears. I'd feel more comfortable with a transmission that's built versus the stock 5 speed and clutch.

i think the 700r4 use a speed sensor also and a different ecm for automatic than the stick

Since the cruise control needs to know how fast the truck is going,
it would need to get that info on the trans or later.
Rarely is that done at the rear axle, so I'd think you would see
the connection on the trans midway or all the way back.
Usually the speed info is picked up there and then shared to the
cruise, speedo and ecm. Take a look at the trans and you should see
a seperate connector from any trans wiring.

Don't forget to place a Trans cooler on it or it will burn up your trans for sure.

I went and did the swap. It took a different driveshaft and now the connectors from the 5 speed and different than the 700r4. One guy said to buy a auto transmission wire connector and splice it in? Any other thought's. Yes the Hp and tq were at the flywheel with an old carb. They didn't have the capability to run Fuel injection. I did put a big cooler on it and the 700r4 is a lock up unit.
