vacuum leak in cabin area?

95 gmc 1500 xcab...everytime I press the breaks I hear a ssssssssssssssss sound...like a vacuum type hiss. the truck is currently only braking with the front two brakes, the back two needs the works (shoes, hardware kits, etc.) . Im pretty sure the sound is brake related somehow.

sounds like your vacuum booster has a leak. does the pedal firmer than normal on the first push with engine off. does the feel change at all when you push the brakes?

the pedal is usually always soft as ****...not firm at all, just enough to stop the truck when stopping at a light, sign, etc. I figured this was due to it needing brake work. also, the brake line had to be patched with compression fittings but I had a shop bleed the brakes and whatnot. but your right maybe it is something with the booster..if so how do I fix that?

If you are patching for leaks, it's time to replace! compression should NOT be used on brakes, only flare, bubble, etc. They make an easy to work with soft line, that bends and flares nice. Do yourself a favor and do it right, the consequences aren't worth it!

I agree, the lines will blow out of those compression fittings on a panic stop.
