terminal ?

I have a 95 1500 GMC with the auto. One time over a yr ago when it was quite cold.. about zero .. engine not warmed up.. drive did not engage like going to neutral.
Only once never again till today . It was 40 deg out engine not warmed up and it did the same thing. I have notice a little lag on the drive when engine is cold. Kind of like revving the engine maybe 50 to 100 rpm before engaging the clutch on a manual.
Could this just be a dirty filter? or am I looking at a terminal situation ?

slow go

hey scav have you checked the fluid level and condition ?might just need a flush and new fluid .it takes a while to move the oil around when it's cold . at least drop the pan and see how much junk is in it before you pitch it .

Kind of thinking that. Fluid doesn't smell. level is ok. The thing is it does feel a little funny on shifts when cold but not when warm.. warm = thinner oil so am hoping filter is dirty. Have had it for about 2 yrs 14,000 miles.
No history on the truck. Will have to wait till next week to drop the pan on it.

play safe and drop the pan and change the filter then re-fill, If its high mileage a flush can break-away a sludge bomb that could kill the poor girl!

Wondering if I should put in an additive to soak up some of the gunk . Just a little nervous about knocking chunks loose like you said. Wonder it the right stuff would just desolve it rather than knock stuff loose .
I have the filter and oil ,just might go at it tomorrow.

I would use a stabilizer maybe like lucas or something, as long as it doesn`t have alot of detergents in it...
