OEM Engine Color

Anyone know of a link to a place where I can find the original engine color of my 86 Sierra Classic (stock 350). I had found a site months ago that explained when they changed from blue to orange (or vice-versa) but I lost it. I was really hoping it was black.

Or, if anyone just has this info kicking around in their head, I'll trust you.

just paint it black, gm's choice of engine block colors was hideous back then. better yet, paint it to match the body color.

I am almost 100% certain by 86 the engines were black by then. Reason being, said to disciapate heat much better. If it were me, even if 86 was not the year, it has to be real close in there somewhere, and I would go black, biggest reason being, because that is your preferance, 2, it may very will discipate heat better if GM thinks so.

As I was thinking and almost 100% certain, here is a quote I found about Olds engine history.

"All GM engines were painted black starting in 1983. It was due to better heat dissipation. From early 1977 to 1982, all GM engines were "corporate blue". Early 1977 and back, each division had their own unique engine colors, combinations, and usage (low & high compression, low & high performance, etc). "

nighthawk is on a distinguished road
I worked for GM from 1974 till 2007, and i do remember when we went from "Chevy Orange" to the Blue in 77 and to the Black engine paint in the early 80s, so black will be fine for an 86!
