It has some similarities to a detroit, but I am not sure it is. I'd hope not. Detroit Lockers are supposed to be the best money can buy I've heard. Although, I have not a lot of experience with lockers and any differnetial for that matter. I have set up an old 62 Chev 3rd member a couple of times, and watched a guy set up a 12 bolt chev with a limited slip and thats about it. Changed many spiders gears and axle bearings, but I don't conisder that rear end expecience since it does not involve setting ring and pinion lash.

Its a detroit, mostly i bet your thinking it should be a complete carrier assy, for some reason the only detroit locker model available for the 10.5" chevy 14T rear end installs into an gm open carrier. (as pictured)

Anyways got it all in there, setup her up, went for a drive, all is good, can`t even hear it, (good thing) the only problem is i think i need longer mudflaps to keep the rubber from sticking to the fenders.... pics to come....

Oh, I get it. I did not know that. I thought the detroit locker had to have its own carrier assembly. Maybe then the Detroit Locker isn't all what I thought it was. That will be the first time I have ever heard of someone tearing up a DL.

Ahh, OK, now that makes sense. I am not suprised to hear the G80 took a dump. Although their most common failure is the strip to teeth on the outer gear. It is more of a cam lock design and fairly weak. Along with its only good for very low speeds, so you can give it up if you wanting to do a burnout to heat your slicks, unless you can get them hot at 8-15mph.
