| a good battery should not loose a charge like that. have you tried to clean the battery case and terminals. a dirty battery will loose voltage.

| That battery is toast, you used the perfect test to prove it. I wouldn't depend on a battery below 12.5v, nor keep one below 12.25v. For that test a "12v battery" is functionally dead at 12v. Remember, 12v name comes from the uncharged value of cells, most of my batts will sit at 12.75v after a couple days disconnected. Possible causes include cracked case or low electrolyte, so check for those before bringing in for warrantee. Damaged plates are most likely caused by low electrolyte or continous overcharge. If it was originally parked with a poor charge, then sat a long time with maybe a dose of cold weather, that could sink it. |

Most automotive batteries have 6 cells each producing 2.1Volts when fully charged. It sould to me like one of the cells in your battery are dead/dying and it needs to be replaced. Sorry.... | |

| Say buddy what I do my battery is a Interstate I take it to the distributor and they never give me a receipt they don't even charge to check it like a authorized dealer will. I hope this helps you out bud. Also the longer you take to take it to them the more there going to charge you to pro-rate it. Good luck! GMC |
