Brakes

Ive got a 1991 GMC C1500, since ive had it (3 yrs) the brake light has
stayed on. Ive rebuilt the back brakes, new pads up front, new master
cylinder since Ive gotten it. The back brakes dont seem to grab very
well I dont know if its gotten anything to do with the anti system or
what. Its got the anti lock system that has no sensors only whats under
the hood. Thanks Guys!

I never checked it but Ive replaced it with a used one that supposedly
was good. When I bled the brakes it seemed ok.

Brake light issue

Freebird - i had a similar issue with an 88 chevy I had and the only problem was the actual brake light switch located under the dash. There is a little black "rocker" type switch that is activated via the brake pedal arm and on my old 88, the internal "spring" that pushes the switch back to the off position was just plain worn out. A replacement switch cost about 10 bucks and completely resolved my issue.

Just a thought...

did you bleed the brakes to flush the system, so everything has fresh fluid?

yeah is it possibly just a bad park brake switch? my gramps went and bought some brake fluid to top up his chevy, then called me when that didn`t fix it, turned out his park brake pedal was slightly depressed. he said he never uses it, but i said that over time the pedal can fall down. (very slightly, enough to trigger the light) turns out thats all it was, easy to check anyways, i beleive if you ground the switch it will turn that light off. easy to try anyways.

The switch checks out good and the lever gets good contact. One thing I forgot,
possibly related is the cruise control has never worked either. Im layed off work
right now so Im trying to get problems fixed, biggest issue is the front end. Ive
got to replace the core support, grille, and hood. The brake light is a small problem
but really irritating.
