Unhappy 2000 GMC Yukon XL NEED HELP Quickly

We bought this 2000 Yukon XL with a 5.3 a week ago. Over this past weekend we put well over 800 miles on it. For the last week it has run flawlessly. This morning after about 15 miles it lost power started sputtering and stopped running. It spins over great, firing intermittently and will start but quickly starts to sputter then stops running. If it sits for a few while it will start and run smoothly for under 10 seconds. There is nothing showing in the message center display or any other light (check engine) or whatsoever.

If the fuel pump was bad it shouldn't even start for a few seconds. Either the pressure is there or it isn't right?

I do need help with this quickly, any advice is appreciated.

put it on a scanner and check the sensor readings

I thought it would only be kicking out a code if the check engine light was on or something in the message center display...this is not so?

If you go to your local autozone they will scan it and pull the code for you for free.

this is assuming that it is throwing a code. a scanner will evaluate the values given at each sensor rather than just a code from the ECM.
something you might look into. we all have our favorite gas up place and when we travel, we usually stop not knowing what gas is like at a particular station. at some point, you might have gotten a bad batch of gas and has now clogged the fuel filter making it unable to let fuel pass by. have you changed the filter yet?? something like this will not throw a code in the message center, which is useless by my means, nor will it give a service engine light.

This is were we are at... I bought a scanner and checked the truck. There are no codes stored, everything is good in that way which I feel good about but not knowing is a pain.

I have been thinking of a filter as well. It sits for a bit and it will start and run fine for up around 10- 15 seconds and then start to sputter out and quit, like it is starving for gas.

We did fill up late yesterday, but then drove about 150 miles home and the 15 miles this morning when it then stalled out.

Is the filter on the frame rail like our 97 Suburban? The truck is sitting at a business in town 15 miles away. I am wondering if I can replace it there or if I need to have it towed home for this.

Thanks TONS

the way you talk means to me that you bought a code reader rather than a scanner. a scanner goes into more depth than a code reader.
i would look at the filter first. it is a cheap part to replace comparitively and needs to be done anyone at certain miles in your trucks life. if the filter change shows no progress, than i would move onto bigger broader ideas. the 2000 is mounted in the frame rail. easy to do on the side of the road, if need be, with very little mess or extreme amount of time. depending on what location you are at, maybe a great thing. it was 104* (not heat index) and seems to be doing it again today.

Is it unusual for a for the fuel filter to be affected this many miles after a fill up? (165 or so?)
