part of the same circuit, yes.

esc changes your timing to match the current condition of the engine (rpm, temp, yadda yadda), the knock sensor is one of the sensors that the esc uses to gather info. when the sensor goes bad, it retards your timing to it's max setting. put a timing light on it to confirm.

Thanks Mud - I seen that in my haynes after I posted. I may just go ahead and replace that as well. However, if a knock sensor is bad I was reading it would be a code 43 in Haynes...? I did notice that the connector to the knock sensor was loose and very dirty. So I cleaned and fixed but havn't started it.

code 42 is ignition control circuit.....43 is knock sensor....if it is the knock sensor...i would also check the Electronic spark control module itself...the Knock sensor send a signal to the ESC module....

Well mud - your brain frat may have solved my problem. After reading your post I cleaned up that connection to the knock sensor. Ran pretty good tonight. I am going to drive it to work tomorrow...

smokensteve - I think that is what you were trying to say in your post.

Anyways - Wish me luck! If it does go bad again... I call AAA for a tow... that's what I pay them for!

Thanks.
