NWB here - I have comment and question

Been look'n for a good source of Forum info and this one was recommended.

Now my question - 1990 GMC full size Jimmy 350 Throttle body injection. Mostly in summer (60 Deg or better) when the truck is up to operating temps I will shut it down, let some time pass (30 minutes or so) then go to start it. It will fire but then dies like it is starving for fuel a couple sec after it fires. Then it won't start for about an hour or more. If I pop the hood I can usually wait for about 15/20 minutes and it will start. Something is cooling down and reconnecting but what?

Any thoughts as to what it maybe?

have you tried pouring a little gas down the throttlebody to see if it pops?

Hmmm - no I haven't. I am going to have to keep a little handy along with an extra spark plug. It seems like it wants to start but just can't fire up. I have changed the coil and fuel filter. Not when they were changed last so I went ahead and did them. I am now replacing the cap, rotor and ignition module. Cap and rotor were reported as to changed a year ago. Not sure if that happened. The contacts in the cap had looked warn down with a white coating.

you might try replacing the spark plugs too.. they can cause that to happen, as the electrodes are probably worn and foul out fairly easily.. then half hour later the fuel evaporates and they attemp to fire again. Might be ll you need.

Got the ignition module in. It didn't start the 1st time so I had to take apart and put back together the dist along with the ignition module, oh, about 4 times. I pulled the new and put back the old... did they sell me the wrong one?... did I miss a conection?... I then double checked the wires to make sure they were on the right pole on the cap. Last time was a charm, it started... HOWEVER, it ran fine till things started warming up...

A little popping in the exhaust, some bad idle, some chugging when hitting the gas and the service engine soon light popped on... O2 sensor? What are the symptoms to a bad o2? The service engine light doesn't have a sequence of flashes only a solid light.

I have a code 42. new coil, ignition module, cap, rotor. moved the plug wires away from the circuit wiring and fixed a chaffed wire. Still get code 42 BUT it does start and runs pretty good... for a bit. when it gets warm to operating temps is starts missing and sputtering when i hit the accelerator and has a bad idle... then the check engine light pops on giving me only the code 42.

thats what I found.....
Welcome to the forum......... hang on, and the guys will get your answer ....

Its sounds like the idle isn't adjusting to the operating temperature
