Exhaust Resonators

My 03 2500 HD has Resonators - well one side does, the otherside plugged up and was removed, now I am going to cut the other one out and weld a straight pipe in... what are they for? will it help my performance or MPG not having them? the guy who replaced the pipe on the other side said the replacement pipes dont have them.... whats the story?

Jim

those are probly the catalytic converters, they are for emmisions, i find it strange that only one was removed, the only problem with removing them is its illegal, but i`m not here to harp you on that, don`t have any myself, but you`ll notice less low end torque, a small increase in mpgs. probly a Check engine light, and of course and increase of noise!

No they are resonators, they are before the cats, much smaller than the cats.

They start the burn process early for the converters... and they are there to keep the noise emissions down also.. They serve a duel purpose yet are expendable.
