2000 Yukon xl throwing all kind of dash lights?? hey there. i really need some place to start looking for a fix and i hope there is someone out there that has ran into this problem and can give me a place to start. 2000 gmc yukon xl 1500 4x4. most the time i get in and drive and i see no issues at all. recently i have been turning on the key and i get a ton of issues at one time. what i get is the low gas message, Abs light turns on, Service 4wd light turns on, and a service battery indicator turns on. they all rotate in the message center except for the Abs light. Then i look over and the fuel gauge is sitting all the way on E like as if the car was not running. this is really making me mad because i have no idea where to start. some of the recent work i had done has been a fuel filter, rotor turned, new tensioner pulley, real axel seal, new battery, new surpentin belt, new 4wd relay switch. sometimes after it will sit i can start it up and all those message just go away. other times i can disconnect the battery and then they will go away as well just to later appear when it wants to. they all come on at the same time and they all go off at the same time. PLEASE HELP>>>>>>I AM GOING MAD!!!!!!!!

| sounds like the cluster is going bad, there is some kind of recall on them, check with the dealer about yours

I've heard of similar problems from a bad ignition switch that was worn out due to a very heavy set of keys.

It could be, if you have dual tanks, that maybe you have kept the engine running while filling the tanks ? That would give the low gas and DTC #s P0461, P1431, P1172 and be considered normal. Dash messages are nice but you should get the codes read. Not sure that pulling the battery will truly clear codes fast on that truck, but you don't want to clear them, you want to read them. The ABS light may be unrelated - that year had a recall for some because of corrosion at the front wheel sensors. That seemed to trip the ABS if you braked at very low speeds like 3-10mph. FYI: P0461 =Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Range/Performance P1172 =Rotor Control Fault Course, even if this is a bad guess, code reading is a good place to start. Some local parts places will do for free, ask around. It could just be a bad ground too...

This might be a little off track, but will not take much to check if you a have a volt meter. I had a friend that had a similar problem on a Toyota and it turned out to be something wrong with the voltage regulation in the alternator. It was putting out a high voltage. I don’t remember exactly but I think it was over 30 volts and was varying according to engine speed. It was causing all sorts of crazy stuff. Just an idea.

He said he was going mad... He's probably tranked up in a psych ward somewhere while the gremlins in his cluster continue their video game marathon. Or maybe he just lost the link.

This may be off base but is a possibility. Back in May my wife's 2002 Saturn quit running. It acted like a bad fuel pump. That's what it ended up being. It cost me almost $800 but I got it replaced. I was told that the part was so expensive because it's a pump and sender unit combined. OK fine, fix it. A week later my wife stops for gas and fills up the tank. She gets back in the car and starts it but can't get it out of Park. Then she notices that the gas gauge is reading empty. After shutting it down and restarting a couple times she gets it into gear and drives away. About a mile down the road the gas gauge is going from pegged on full to empty. ALL of the warning lights are going on and off. When she got home I told her I'd take it to the place that replaced the pump the week before. When I got there it worked fine and they claimed to have done nothing wrong. It was acting like a short or something. He then said that the BCM (Body Control Module) was probably going bad. The car was working fine so she drove it to work the next day. That afternoon, the same thing started happening. Even the power locks wouldn't work. She works a mile from the dealer so I had it towed in and spent $720 for a new BCM and things have been fine since. (Unless you count the $889 I spent three weeks ago for a new A/C compressor) Good luck with your truck! John
