engine size and 4wd

I'm looking for a new truck and it seems I can not find a 5.7 V8. I see plenty of 5.3 V8 and 6.0 V8s. All the trucks I had in the past were the 5.7s. Did they stop using the 5.7? I use my trucks for snow plowing and pulling a 17.6 foot deep V fishing boat. I'm use to the 5.7 getting around 16 or 18 mpg. What would be the best size engine for my use between the 5.3 and 6.0? Would the gas or flex fuel mileage be the same. What is the best 4wd. I had a z71 off road that would get stuck in ways you think it would be easy to get out of with 4wd. Thanks

Hate to say it. But there making trucks for sissy's now a days. Wrong gear ratio and built to ride like a caddy. Bad mix.

I've got 3 Trucks and an SUV

Chevy Trailblazer
Ford F-250 2003
GMC 2500 HD 2008

My Gmc rides like a car and pulls like a anchor is hooked to it.

F-250 superduty rides like a tank and pulls like nothing is attached with my fifth wheel.

i think they stopped the 5.7 in trucks around 98 and suvs around 2000 or so. the 5.3 is smaller but stronger and alot of people like them

the 5.3l with afm is a good choice, power and economy, the 6.0l is power and like driveing with a leaky gas tank. shes a thirsty one.

99 they used both the 5.3 and the 5.7. this was the major point that they switched from the 350 to the 323 (325, 327, or whatever else mud calls it) in the truck lines.

zembonez will become famous soon enough
The 5.3 makes a LOT more power than the good old 350 did and has been known to go well over 200K without any problems. It has been about 10 years since GM stopped producing the 5.7 for half ton trucks. Nothing at all to be afraid of with the 5.3. It's a great engine.

Thanks to all for the info. I'll look at the 5.3s then.

The 5.7L was phased out in the pickups in 1999 & 2000, the vans continued to use them through 2002, and the medium duty trucks used then through 2003. For plowing I would greatly suggest the 6.0, More torque and a much stronger engine, the down side is, its thirsty.
