| I have a '66 and if/when restoration happens I'm using chains and keeping the turnsignals. But the cool thing about moding trucks is everyone has there own ideas and personal preferences. It gives us a broad range of ideas to share and use. I appreciate stock mods as well as tricked. Some use modern components fused with old vehicles. I personally like it when the doors get shaved and pop out locks are used. I also plan("if") to find an old radio for the dash, get rid of the bench put in buckets build a custom oak center console to hide the real stereo or go with the aftermarket that "looks" kinda old but acts as the cd changer control. Even if shortbed doesn't use turnsignals I think his project will turn out cool. I'm looking forward to see what other "classic" things he swaps out or changes. ![]()

| I looked it up and Kansas does have a safety inspection before a title or registration will be issued. I wonder how strict they are about modifications? I know some states, NY and CA come to mind, can be real "spheroid smashers" when it comes to stuff like this. For example, NY frowns on anything that isn't OEM or DOT certified. My brother is a cop in NYC, and I once watched him write 17 summonses on a guy that cut me off by pulling out of a parking space right in front of me. My brother was citing him for everything from a burned out taillight (5 summonses just for that!) to dirt on the license plate. Of course, it didn't help the guy any when he told my brother to go bleep himself... heheh And, for those wondering, the five summonses for the burned out taillight were:

| DOT here give truckers alot of flack and will write them up on every little thing possible, no matter how insignificant. alot of texas has safety inspection except for those major metro areas that require that and the emissions probe. only thing emissions that i have here is the "appearance" that the smog pump is in working order. as long as it looks like it works, they will pass it. seatbelts, lights, horn, and parking brake. that is what we concentrate on. |

I was thinking random or yearly inspections when I said we didn't have them. We renewed the registration on my girlfriend’s car and no inspection. but "new" title I'm not sure. The "dumb" law we have is. If you get a fix it ticket for say a blown tail light. You have I think 30 days to fix it AND get it signed off or you lose your license. That happened to my brother. Back home you just need to fix it. Signing off is optional. Seeing different mods I always wondered about height restrictions on jacked up trucks and "street able" HP limits. I know some things are “at the discretion of the officer”. Like if he wants to check your tint or “obstruction of view” for air fresheners etc. of your rear view.

| Well here is the DMV handbook exerp: Bumper Height Requirements Owners of automobiles and pickup trucks are required to have both front and rear bumpers mounted within certain height levels. Height limitations are governed by the net shipping weight of the vehicle, not the modified or altered weight. The maximum allowable heights between the pavement and bottom of the front and rear bumper, provided by section 316.251, Florida Statutes, are: Cars with a net weight of less than 2,500 pounds - 22 inches front and rear. Cars 2,500 pounds or more but less than 3,500 pounds - 24 inches front and 26 inches rear. Cars 3,500 pounds or more - 27 inches front; 29 inches rear. Trucks under 2,000 pounds 24 inches front; 26 inches rear. Trucks 2,000 pounds or more but less than 3,000 pounds - 27 inches front, and 29 inches rear. Trucks 3,000 pounds or more but not more than 5,000 pounds - 28 inches front; 30 inches rear. I know this isn't STRICTLY enforced! Florida Drivers Handbook | 5.2. Bumper Height

| There's a lot of things that don't get enforced. I was sitting in rush hour traffic on the DC Beltway not long ago, and pointed out to my buddy who was with me that one out of every three cars we could see had at least one brake light out. And I can't remember the last time I saw or heard of anyone getting stopped for tires that extend beyond the fenders, even with aftermarket flares, yet you see 'em all the time around here.

| That is true. On my horse power comment/question. I see as long as it runs on pump gas and passes emisions. Of course having over 600HP and getting it to idle in traffic well........ And back to the turn signal thing. I see ALOT of new cars that have them and "apparently" don't work! ![]()

| I didn't think that was the new cars with turn signals that didn't work. I just figured the people were poor and to be able to afford the AC in the car, they declined the OPTIONAL turn signals. Turn signals are an option package on most cars now days aren't they?

| Now that guy did probalby have some defective turn signals. If not totally trashed and stuck on left turn, it was at least a defective cancelling cam to turn it off automatically.
