Hey GMC, what makes you dislike Bosch plugs? I ive been using them in my 98 silvy 5.0 c1500 ex cab since i bought it in 2002 , with no problems. passes smog tests w/ flying colors. I have read a lot of posts on here about bosch plugs being no good for gms. Who do you think makes the 0x sensors for these engines?

Big difference between an O2 sensor and a spark plug.
I've used the Bosch plugs in both my g/f's Dakota and my old E-350, and in both cases had terrible results with them. Swapped them out for some Champion's and no more problems.

If they work for you, great.

So today i changed the plugs, with Champions actually. how funny. And i fixed several vacuum leaks. one was a huge that almost cut the line in half. And the other two were small cracks and stuff at where they plugged into. Anyway it idles so much smoother and lower now and sounds much better.

So i need to change the oil. i also want to run seafoam through the gas tank before i retake the test. is there anything else i should probably do before i take it in for the retest?

Thanks everyone for helping me.

Change your PCV too. New one should only cost you a couple of bucks.

Pull it out and give it a shake. If it rattles chances are it's fine. You can spray a little carb cleaner in it too.

inexpensively..i would tackle your problems in this order..sort out the vacuum problem..run some injector cleaner through the tank..install a new set of plugs (check proper gap) and inspect the wires..inspect the cap and rotor..if still having a emission problem it might be catalytic converter or even a oxygen sensor can cause issues..they do sell a product to pass emissions short term fix but it is expensive..goodluck and keep us posted..george

I think we have the vacuum leaks fixed. I dont hear any more. i am going to be checking more lines today for leaks. I put new spark plugs yesterday. The wires seem fine. I dont have anything to test the cap and rotor. so i hope they are functioning correctly.

With the injector cleaner, do i put it in the tank right before the test? I was going to put seafoam in the tank.

Thanks

doity..if your going to the emissions check shortly lay off the fuel injector cleaner it goes in with your gas in tank and can be used after you have the truck on the road to clean up your injectors to help it run better.. for know just get the truck to run as smooth as possible try some fresh gas if needed and they do sell a specific cat cleaner product to help you pass emissions..follow the directions on the product if you go that route..goodluck
