95 truck barely runs when cold

i have a 1995 gmc c1500 4.3 v6 and in the winter i have to let it warm up fully or it is un driveable meaning it stalls and doesnt want to start again and in the summer for the first ten minutes of driving when you step on it it stutters real bad and sometimes will smoke black and make a pop sound what the heck could this be it drives me nuts ans soon as the truck is up to operating temp it purrs it also seems to run rich when i tow my cmaper or its under load when hot and stepping on it it looks like its a diesel from behind

I think you should check your timing on the engine. If thats not it its definatly getting way to much fuel. Maybe a fuel pressure regulator is not working properly. Sounds like its getting flooded out when you start it. Have you tried anything yourself?

Well the black smoke would indicate that its definatly getting to much fuel. it could be a pressure regulator letting to much fuel into the fuel rail or even maybe the computer itself is telling the injectors to disperse to much fuel into the cylinder.

I'd want to get a scanner on it, and a 5 gas analysis while it was cold.

What kind of fuel injection do you have in the truck throttle body injection or electronic fuel injection?
