Mystery Wire

While trying to get the grille off on my truck today (got it - installed new horn) I noticed this one set of wires on the drivers side frame, just ahead of the control arm, that looks like it was ripped off or burned off. I have no idea what the wires are for. Everything on the truck (lights, horn, etc) works fine, except for the cargo light, which is pretty useless anyway since I don't have a bed on it.

Anyone have any ideas what these wires are for?

Oh, and while I had the grille off I discovered that not only do I have a transmission cooler on this truck, but also an oil cooler and, first one I've ever seen, a cooler on the power steering. Call me crazy but, I wouldn't think a PS unit would actually benefit from a cooler... Seems strange to me.

Well, that's where the two lines that cross over that wire go. You can see them in the photos, coming off the pump and the steering box, and from there they go out to a small cooler, about 18" long and 3" wide, next to the A/C condenser. Weird.

what size truck is it? power steering cooler could be if you have hydroboost (3/4 ton and 1 ton) excessive heat needs to be cooled off too..

as far as the wires maybe they were for factory fog lights??

It's a '99, but yes, old body.

You could be right on the hydroboost, I've just never seen one with an aux cooler before.

On the wires, I suppose that's a possibility, but there's no switch or anything for them. I do have the front bumper with the holes though. I've gotten conflicting info on those holes... one mechanic I know, who works on medium and heavy duty trucks, claims it's part of the air intake. Just "how" I'm not really sure, since there's nothing back there, no ducts or hoses. To support his assertion though he points out that aftermarket "push" bumpers (something I looked into) for the truck come with and without the holes and refer to them as intakes. OTOH, a different mechanic friend insists they're for fog/driving lights, despite an utter lack of anything, or even anyplace, to attach them.

I'm not ruling it out that the wires are for fog/driving lights, but you'd think that if they were, and that's what the bumper holes are for, then I'd have a switch for them. No?

trace the wires, they may be for a factory block heater

Easier said than done... They disappear under the block and getting under the truck is problematic. 25 degree slope on my driveway, and a center hump in the street before a 20 degree downslope to my neighbors garage. If they ever hold a "Mechanic's Olympics" that's where they're putting the "creeper jump".
