Hard Starting on a 98 K3500 7.4L

I have a 98 K3500 w/ the 7.4L that has a problem with starting. The problem only happens if it has sit for at less then about 10 hours or if it was just shut off and restarted. When turning over it cranks and cranks then finally it will catch and usually a black smoke cloud comes out of the tail pipe and it will smell rich of gas.

Anyone have any ideas.

Assuming you have given it a recent tuneup......put it on a scanner, check the sensor readings for the o2 sensor, ecm coolant temp switch

change out your fuel pressure regulator, they regulairly fail, if that doesn`t fix it the injectors are common to leak, i`ve had to put two regs and three sets of injectors in, put in bosch injectors last time and its been smooth sailing.
