Exclamation Truck not Starting

just got my 1995 k1500 sierra with a 350 (5.7l) motor and drove it 215km to go camping this weekend and worked fine all the way except when I went to start it the started seemed to grind a bit as if it was still half engaged after the motor was running. Now the truck wont start at all and all I get is a loud click that seems to be coming from the starter. Now my truck is stuck in the middle of my driveway! Help?

Hit the starter a couple times with a hammer.(NOT trying to knock it off)

Then try the jump thing like Bernie said.( or vice versa jump then hammer)

Sometimes the bendix(?) arm gets stuck. If battery is fresh and hammer didn't work could be a starter selinoid(sp?).

There's a SLIGHT chance it could be sitting in a dead spot on your fly wheel.

Happened to me a few times on my Monte.

You mean missing teeth on the flywheel? In that case you'd hear the starter spin.

Well I've had small sections completely missing causing the spin then I had a couple partial causing that or at the time(been a few years) that's what I recall as being one culprit. then they broke completely and the spin.

Usually just the bendix, selinoid or dead bat.

Thanks. The battery is good, the gauge is showing over 9.6v, the starter motor isnt even spinning its just clicking once when you turn the key. I tried hitting it with a hammer to loosen the bendix arm but I might not have hit hit hard enough...to scared lol. where would the solenoid be located?

Time to change the starter on that one. Oh, and normal battery voltage is 13.8

You're welcome. Had it happen to me more than once.

Double check to make sure the starter bolts are good and tight.

If it happens too many more times might have to drop it out and clean it.

Don't wanna burn the silinoid up.

Could have been a fluke or might be some crud(oil, dirt etc.) in it.
