So there's this deal they call a ground on some of the modern trucks.

Welcome to the forum snider, late tho I say it.

This is a great example of why all the info you can kick in
at the beginning of the (single) thread is important.
Find the sender wire at tank or the ground wire and jump it to ground.
If gauge reads right, then stop slandering your pump until
you are sure it's really connected. Shared ground.

undo the outgoing side of the filter and turn the key see if fuel is going through like it should.

if you can afford a pump, you can certainly but a filter. if you dont know the last time you replaced the filter, then do it now. dont even bother in testing it.
why do you "think" that it is not getting gas??

Did you replace the pump originally cause you were not getting fuel or you knew it was bad?

Good question what was it doing before. And it can be a new pump but the only way to see if it pushing enough gas is to check it with a gauge bad ones will do that like I have written before if it is bad pump get a Delphi pump. And you don't have to replace the filter but like Brad wrote if you can't remember when it was done last buy a new one now read on the new filter it will say in which direction to put it on.
Good luck! GMC
