I would bet the fuel pump is on the block and yes you can fuel inject that engine. All you would need to do fuel injection is a computer and new intake manifold thats for fuel injection along with a fuel pump and fuel return line i think im not sure on the last part.

Welcome to the forum and howdy from TEXAS. Now the fuel pump is in the tank so your going to have to remove the tank or remove the bed some people just lift up the drivers side to have access to get the fuel pump out also don't buy some cheap Auto Zone pump buy a Delphi pump O'Reilly's has them for no more than $140.00 dollars which includes the wiring harness also this price also includes the sock. And your truck is fuel injected already not unless somebody changed out the engine with a older one.
Good luck! GMC
PS-Remember safety is always first. Also if your tank has a lot of gas use a floor jack to lower it you can also use one to lift the bed or get your friends to help you out.

Most People find it easier to lift the bed off the truck and get to the fuel pump. It will be inside the fuel tank. You will likley remove your fuel guage and fuel pump as one complete assembly. Unless someone has changed something as GMC suggested, your truck should be TBI (Throttle Body Injection). IF you are reffering to SFI (Sequential Fuel Injection) to be updgraded to, which is Multi Port injection, then you'd need a set up from a 96-99 I believe it is. Also would include the heads since they are to be Vortec. Big increase in horsepower but alot of work too. Likley best to find you a 96 or newer truck if that is your interest. You will aslo need to change to another fuel pump if going to SFI injection. A Carb motor can run on 3-7 lbs of fuel pressure, TBI is about 14-18lbs, and SFI is about 28-32lbs. So you see, you'd never get your injectors to open on an SFI with system with a TBI fuel pump. Keep in mind, my fuel pump pressures may be off a bit, but the point is, there is significant differances in pressure.

89 is TBI. fuel pump is in the tank. costs anywhere between 150 and 300 bucks. yours should already be fuel injected unless someone has swapped it over to carb.

I know when I saw my first TBI was on a 92 RS Camaro all I saw was the air cleaner case and it wasn't like my TPI so I assumed it was carbed and I got into a little argument with the guy until he pulled the cover and said see. I was under the thought process that Fuel Injection was some new technology and did come out until 96 and newer. Shows how ignorant I was. So maybe that is why some think TBI is Carb they look similar to an untrained eye.
