Transmission Biting the big one ?

This morning pulling away from stop sign,my 95 K1500 5.7 gave out a nasty slipping gear sound. Let up it quit shortly after giving it the gas again the same thing
happened.

Sounded a little like grinding the gears on a stick. These transmissions have problems with sprag gears?
What kind of a job is it taking the trans out of a 4X4 ?

A question about this. I hear a drum on these breaks. Is this true and is it common? It gives me a ratchet sound in first and second.Never in third or above. I want to be sure about this before I change transmissions or have it rebuilt. Also if I have it rebuilt , is there an aftermarket drum they put in so it don't happen again?Truck has 234,000 on it engine trans is supposed to have about 140,000 on it according to the guy I bought it from.

the drum you are refering to is called the sun shell and yes the heavy duty one is called THE BEAST three times stronger hope this helps

For sure get THE BEAST. I'm sorry how you feel my trans already shelled out once and now with this one reverse has a slight delay im going to try some Lucas it's been doing it for years but I don't drive my truck much. Remember that year of trans is a odd ball year only that year of trans will fit your truck also while your there have your rear main seal put on even check the trans mount.
