How far have you torn it down now?. What I would do first is confirm good oil pressure. Next turn it over by hand and watch either the rockers or the lifters to make sure you have lift. Use some sort of measuring device to compare lift . This will tell you if you have a cam problem. If you are fortunate enough that it isn't the cam then remove the lifters. As stated you may have to use some type of cleaner on the lifters.

I think what is confusing me is not the idea or problem but more(trust me I am no better ask anyone) the vocabulary. I don't think 2.2L have pushrods. Just lifters that interact with the rocker arm and then the valve.

That picture is it. Everything came apart seperately. I am a shade tree mechanic that likes to save money so bare with me on the correct names. I have not torn it down yet. That is how I ended up here.I am just trying to get all the correct info before I start on it. I will look into checking the oil pressure once I figure out how to do it. I can handle the instructions you gave. That will get me started. Like I said this is good info. Anything else let me know

Find the oil pressure sensor, take it out barrow/buy a oil pressure gauge I think most local parts stores lend them out. install oil gauge and check the pressure I will look up the pressure specs. I have a 2.2L in my cavalier so I'll check that for you.

Well Traffic, already, I decided your smarter than a few. Most tear all into it, get stuck realize they are overwhelmed, then come here. Better to get all the info BEFORE you start as you are doing.

Time To Fix Truck

It is time to work on the tranny now. I been looking online for the identification and no luck yet. Does anybody know any sites that will help me determine what I have? Thanks
