transmission problem

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD. When I don't drive the truck for about a week, it sometimes does not engage into drive or reverse. I am told that this is caused by oil draining out of the torque converter. I am also told that I need a fluid pump modification to prevent this drain back. My first question is whether there is an easy fix for this (estimate is $1800) and the second is whether or not it is just easier to start my truck up every few days to prevent this drain back.

even if this were true , when you start the truck , the converter would refill , how many miles on transmission , the smell and color of fluid , last fluid change ,if not lately try that and add lucas transmission additive , i and others on here swear by it

transmission

I have approx. 60,000 miles on the truck. It has an Allison transmission and when the mechanic looked at the oil, it was red but he noted a slightly "burnt" odor. What does the Lucas transmission treatment actually do to stop this backflow?

changed the fluid and add the lucas , it helps with seals and cleans out the gunk , how do you know the converter is leaking back .

The problem with the torque converter was diagnosed by my local GMC dealer. They referenced Bulletin 030730011D.

How do you confirm that GMC needs to repair this problem? Is it suffice that a service bulletin has been issued?

a TSB is not the same as a recall. dealership is not required to fix this on their dime and the truck out of warrenty makes it even harder to get them to pony up the cash.
