warning codes?

have a code that pops up every now and then SERVICE 4WD in the info box of gauge cluster.
4wd works fine no weird sounds just the annoying light.
do not want to pay high charge from the dealer to tell it is a sensor or module.
anyone have this happen or might know what it is has been going like this since last year. i dont drive the truck everyday maybe once or twice a week.
this is on my 00 sierra 1500 slt

Any chance the code is B2725 ?

If so, suspect Transfer Case Shift Control Switch.
But it could be that the signal wire from the ECM is just shorting out.

dont know what code it is.
havent wanted to pay dealer to check codes and guy at autozone told me they only check engine codes.
but dont think it could be wiring short because it doesnt always come on maybe every 3rd or 4th time i drive truck.

on your year model, they had alot of problems with the ground in the push button 4wd that would cause that info center to read service 4wd. the 4wd and components would still work like they were supposed to. mine done the exact same thing every so often but only done it once every 2 or 3 months. if you do a search here, you will find that you are far from being alone with this problem.
it is just the message in the info center and not the SES, correct?? if the service engine soon light is on, have the codes run at autozone anyways. chances are, you have another code unrelated to the 4wd issue, or lack of.
