since dumping fuel into it makes it start to run, you need to diagnose why it is not getting fuel. don't throw parts at it and hope it's to expensive

Replace your distributor ignition control module, and maybe your gas pump relay.

I'd say both of those are pretty unlikely to be the cause of this problem. For one, he has good pressure at the TBI (see post #1) and two, it runs if you put a little gas down the throttle body (see post #6), which rules out ignition module.

help!

snider, you still here? let's drop back twenty and start over. okay, you have an '89 with the 5.7, right? van, pickup, suburban???? to check the codes, first find the diagnostic plug. if it's a pickup like mine it should be under the dash near your left knee? now you have 2 choices, go buy a code reader for the OBD I system or get/make a jumper and connect pin A(ground) to pin B. that will cause your Check Engine light to flash in a sequence if any codes are set in the ECM, 2 flashes, pause, 4 flashes means a 24 code. if you do not have a Chilton's or Haynes manual yet, i've got mine sitting next to me, let me know.

ok so it is narrowed down to something not allowing the injectors to fire, since dumping gas down works the ingition side is fine. can you keep it running if you use a sprayer to add gas? this would prove that the inition is fine (moudule etc). a switch or sensor is not sending a signal to the ecm, when cranking do you have oil pressure? does the guage go up or light go off?

Don't know if this was done. Use an analog volt meter and connect it to one of the injector wires and crank it. the needle should pulse. A digital might not read the injector pulse current, not quick enough .

Scav.
