electric fan

my wife has a '99 jeep grand and the fan wont kick on any more so it over heats. the fan is good cuz i tested it by hooking it up directly to the battery. im going to hook up a switch to turn it on what dont whch wire from under the dash will be the best to slice into. i dont want to burn down the wifes ride cuz that would make her very unhappy, and you know what happens when the wife is unhappy.....

Isn't that fan controlled by the PCM through a relay ?
Have you check that it's good ?
And, I believe, fuse #10 40A ?

it is controlled by the ECM due to 2 possibilities it calls for. one, when the vehicle coolant temperature hits a certain temp, and again when the high pressure side of the AC system reaches above max operating pressure. if you forget to turn it on, you are headed for devastation. i would strongly advise doing this but to remedy the current problem. crab is a great guy to get info from concerning this and will prove helpful if you take a little time to trace down a couple of things with him.

in the event that the engine gets above operating temp, the fan will still continue to work after the ignition circuit has been killed to allow for faster cooling and heat dissipation from the radiator. it then automatically turns itself off once it reaches a certain temp or so many minutes go by, whichever happens first.
