| 5.7 Vortec engine ok...unfortantely i do not have very much info on this engine or truck for that matter. the odm shows 153k but the "kid" stated the engine was swpaed out and has only 93k miles...is that any way to figure this out. other then track down the previous owners that might know for sure or even find the place where is was installed at? secondly...is this a fairly stable engine. it does appear to ahve no oil leakin...the engine is oil free even under as best as i can see (until i can creep under and get a better look) other then the dual (supposely flowmaster) exhaust...it appears to be all stock. ill take pics tis afternoon as long as it doesnt rain like yesterday |

| To my knowledge 5.7 Vortecs are the more preffered (as opposed to say the 5.3) and as with all engines it's possible you can get a lemon no matter what. It also depends on how well the motor was/is up kept as far as fluid changes, coolants etc. Ideally you would want to take the truck to a mechanic and pay the once over fee (maybe $75 or less depending on regions) before investing in it but in most cases that's something we (the buyer) can't/won't do. As for the engine swap. You could look for matched parts between the block and VIN# but as to the when you would have to find the installers. Hope that helped or made sense. On a side note I'd be interested in knowing what the reason was for why the motor was swapped at 60,000 miles?(according to the kid)

| to vaify your mufflers are flowmaster's you can can get under your truck and look at them. They should have "Flowmaster" stamped on the side. If not then they are not flowmaster.

I have the same opinion if someone won't let you go out on a highway for a test drive. People who are honest and have a decent car/truck have no prob with you checking it out. Good luck and keep us posted. ![]()

| its a 1996...i have it...i just want to know if i should turn around and sell or keep it. the engine crapnks right up and sounds good...drives good too minus the suspension and the size wheels/alignment...22" are too big for this lowing kit or it wasnt done right...reguardless...i dont want a lowered truck so if i keep it, i plan to go back to stock and will change the wheels. i already have a guy wanting to buy the wheels plus his chevy stocks (same bolt pattern) if the engine checks out...i dont mind puttin alittle $$ into it so this can be my dd and i'll sell my current mazda dd. i only work bout 10 mins from my house so gas isnt much of an issue. the carfax report was very clean..only 2 orginal owners...i think this kid got the truck from his dad...same name on title. he stated the oringal engine had a super charger in it and it went bad or something...didnt know these came with superchargers. thanks for the feedback. i believe i made a good trade...my car he got had engine issues and nissan is very $$ to work on. was only a 2seater too |

| Personnaly I would set a budget on how much $$$ you want to stick in it. When you start approaching close to that you can decide if it's a keeper or not.
