it is a possiblity as you have a MAF sensor before the leak instead of a MAP in the intake. that thing is designed to hold extra volumes of air for when you punch the throttle, the engine wont starve for air. you have a surplus stored there on the intake. now as to how well it works for that intended purpose, i cant tell you. most people decide to go with the aftermarket intakes anyway so there is no telling how much of a differance it makes without it.

my truck had a similar problem with the resinator, your pic, and made the engine shutter and stall because the "vaccuum" of the intake was getting too much air. tightened all connections and cleaned mas...I tried with the resinator off and it wouldn't stay running unless it was held steady at 2000 rpms or higher..

WOOOT....took it to advance auto...they read the error that it was a leak in the intake. they cleared the light..i got cleaner...got home...removed the air filter and the MAF....cleaned that and sprayed cleaner all in the throttle body. i know i need to do more...but it was alreay dark but i can already feel the difference!!!

Usually they won't clear the code. Good for them. Oh wait, you said Advance. Not sure about them. I know Auto Zone won't. They will if you buy parts from them, and fix it, then take it back and if they are nice enough and bored, they will erase the codes.
